Ida was founded in 1992 by NYC-based singers/guitarists Daniel Littleton (also of The Hated) and Elizabeth Mitchell, bringing together a wide variety of disparate influences into a singular minimalist brand of experimental pop all their own. Ida made their debut with 1994โs luminous 'Tales of Brave Ida', released on Tsunami frontwoman Jenny Toomeyโs hugely influential Simple Machines label. The project soon grew into a full-fledged band with the addition of Littletonโs brother Michael Littleton on drums and bassist Karla Schickele, followed by 1996โs 'I Know About You' and 1997โs 'Ten Small Paces', both of which earned critical acclaim for their subtle arrangements, rich harmonies, and stunning songcraft.
โIda is a four-piece band intent on sounding smaller and more private, the better to contemplate questions like ''Am I still the one you wanted me to be?''...Even when Ida allows itself to use a rock beat or guitar feedback, its songs seem hushed. They're like the whispers of uncertain lovers in a perpetual dance of vulnerability and assurance, parting and reconciliation.โ - Jon Pareles / New York Times
