A Capitol Hill Treasure, Reimagined

The Miracle Theatre, a beloved landmark on Capitol Hill’s Barracks Row, first opened its doors in 1909 as the Meader Theater. Originally a vaudeville house, it quickly became a cherished neighborhood cinema before closing in the 1960s. Over the decades, the space took on many identities, but its heart remained tied to storytelling and community.
In 2016, following a thoughtful restoration that honored its historic architecture and ambiance, the venue reopened as the Miracle Theatre. Today, it operates as both a single-screen movie theater and an intimate live performance venue—offering everything from first-run films and cult classics to concerts, comedy, and community events.
Union Stage Presents is proud to contribute to the ongoing story of the Miracle by curating a vibrant calendar of live entertainment. Recent performances have featured artists like Gracie Abrams, Ramy Youssef, The Antlers, and Sarah Sherman. As Washington, D.C.’s oldest operating movie theater, the Miracle continues to be a space where tradition and fresh creativity meet.
